Happy New Year!!! It was a very sparkly occasion in our household this year! We donned our favorite sparkly outfits…which is not a rarity, I must say. Sequin pants, glitter boots, metallic tutus, and tops with sparkly threads weaved throughout. A little too much sparkle? Not on New Year’s Eve!!!…or really ever in my book!! And to top it all off, we played with loads of gold and silver confetti.
Since Olivia is too little to understand New Year’s yet, I decided to have some fun and set up a little photoshoot to celebrate. I thought she’d have a good time if I showered her in confetti…so I headed to Michael’s to get some supplies. When I got there, I didn’t find exactly what I had envisioned. However, I walked around and was really excited about what I ended up with. I didn’t want little pieces of confetti, which is all I could find, so I quickly decided to cut my own. I found metallic foil tissue in gold and silver, that I cut into larger rectangular shapes. Since the pieces were bigger they fluttered and floated to the ground a little slower than smaller pieces would…which helped when I was taking pictures. I could get a few shots in before it all fell to the floor.
I was also looking for a Happy New Year’s sign that I could hang on the window, but I didn’t find one at Michael’s. However, when I happened upon the lighted metal marquee numbers, I knew this would really set the scene. I also loved that they were battery powered and operated with a switch on the side. I didn’t have to worry about hiding unsightly wires. So I grabbed a 2, 0, 1, and 6 and headed out. (Don’t be surprised to see that number 2 make another appearance at Olivia’s 2nd birthday party!)
And then the fun commenced!…
